Endocannabinoidforschung

Das körpereigene Endocannabinoidsystem ist in seiner physiologischen und pathophysiologischen Bedeutung bislang nicht vollständig verstanden. Aus unseren experimentellen Untersuchungen am Menschen lässt sich jedoch ableiten, dass ihm eine wichtige Rolle im Zusammenhang mit den Krankheitsprozessen schizophrener Psychosen zukommt.

Wir haben daher in den vergangenen Jahren die Rolle endogener Cannabinoide (eCBs) bei psychiatrischen Erkrankungen untersucht. Dabei wurde deutlich, dass bei Psychosen die Konzentrationen des eCBs Anandamide in der cerebrospinalen Flüssigkeit von Patienten deutlich gegenüber gesunden Kontrollpersonen erhöht sind. Anandamide stellt dabei eine Art natürlicher Gegenregulation gegenüber anderen Botenstoffsystemen dar, die bei diesen Erkrankungen besonders aktiviert werden.

Demgegenüber sind die eCBs bei Patienten/innen mit Störungen der Emotionsregulation inin cerebrospinaler Flüssigkeit deutlich erniedrigt.

Hieraus lassen sich nicht nur Erkenntnisse im Hinblick auf die zugrundeliegenden neurobiologischen Prozesse endocannabinoiderger Funktionen bei psychiatrischen Erkrankungen gewinnen, sondern auch therapeutische Strategien entwickeln, die das Endocannabinoidsystem als Angriffspunkt haben.
